People have been looking for ways to improve their health and longevity forever. While there may never be a ‘holy grail’, decades of research and discovery have taught us a lot about how our bodies work and what modern medicine can do. NAD+ has become all the rage in the media with celebrity endorsements and magazine articles touting it as a new fountain of youth supplement. Hype is one thing, but substantial evidence and experience makes NAD+ something we believe in and are proud to provide to our patients.

But what is it?

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide is a naturally occuring coenzyme, working with enzymes as a catalyst in over 500 chemical reactions. It supports so many important functions in your body, and has been called the “anti aging molecule” for its important role in promoting health and prolonging life span. NAD+ aids in regulating sleep and hunger, protects your cells from stress, supports metabolism, and even helps with repairing your DNA!

As we age, our bodies stop producing as much NAD. This leads to reduced mitochondrial function and increased oxidative stress, which are factors in developing diseases such as Alzhemier’s and Parkinson’s. Unhealthy lifestyles and immunity issues can also contribute to decreased NAD production.

With the loss of NAD comes signs of aging. Supplementing with our NAD+ treatments can counter this decline to help your body look and feel young!

How it works

NAD plays a major function in cellular function and energy production, regulating metabolic signaling pathways. In its oxidized form (NAD+) it serves as a transport, bringing electrons to molecules where they are needed for various processes. It is important for many redox reactions, for storing and transferring energy, and helping mitochondria produce ATP. As a coenzyme, it is also used in other types of reactions with over 500 different processes in the body utilizing NAD.

Cells also use NAD to support regulatory proteins known as sirtuins. These proteins help regulate your circadian rhythm, making sure you get sleepy and hungry at the right times. They also work together to prevent oxidative stress and repair DNA. By maintaining telomeres, the endings of DNA strands, sirtuins keep our chromosomes from unraveling. This function works to prevent many age-related conditions related to the decay of our genetic material.

Our Treatment

At New Leaf we have a few options for everyone who is interested in NAD therapy. To restore NAD levels and ensure optimal results, we recommend weekly treatments for a month, followed by monthly or seasonal boosters for maintenance. Our typical treatment is 2 injections or 1 IV per week. There is no definitive prescribed schedule on how NAD should be administered however, and we are happy to talk with you about a more personalized regime.
