EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS

  • ESA’s can be dogs, cats or other various animals.

  • Professional training or defined behavioral expectations are not required.

  • Provides support or relief to a patient experiencing emotional or mental health issues and other psychiatric conditions.

  • Can help ground or calm an individual experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and certain phobias.

  • Homing protected via Fair Housing Act.

  • May allow travel on international airlines.

  • Allows workplace access in California and other states.

SERVICE ANIMALS

  • Service animals are primarily required to be dogs.

  • Must be trained to perform specific tasks on cue which assist owners with their disabilities. See FAQ page below for more info.

  • Dog must be trained to stay calm in unfamiliar settings and be alert without being reactive.

  • In most cases must be allowed in any place where the public is allowed — even if the establishment doesn’t allow pets.

  • Must be allowed to accompany owner in workplace

  • Landlords must accommodate housing

  • May be used for domestic and international travel.
